A Message from Ms. Esposito

Dear Parents and Students,

Moving forward into the month of December and our student and teachers have become professionals at virtual learning. We have mastered the art of teaching and learning online. Thanks to the hard work of our school community, we could not be successful without you. We know that virtual learning is not ideal, but we can truly say we are making the best of it. Our commitment to our students has not changed and teachers continue to work hard to master new technology skills to improve your child’s learning experience. Please keep up the great work you have done so far with getting your children online and creating the best learning environment for them.

This month we will keep with our wonderful Nightingale tradition of our holiday show with a virtual twist. Stay tuned for further information about our Virtual Holiday Show to kick off the holiday season ahead of us. Also, if you are one of our 8th grade families we are offering GO CPS assistance as the high school application window is coming to a close on December. 11th.

Again, thank you for all you do to help make Nightingale School such a success. Always remember that as a school community we are here for you. As always, if you have any questions feel free to call the main office at 773-535-9270.

A Message From Ms. Arias

Dear Parents and Students,

We have completed our 2nd Quarter of this school year, as well as NWEA middle of the year testing.  Now it is time for you as a parent to have a conversation with your child.  The first is around their grades, report cards will be coming home Friday, November 7th.  If after speaking to your child, you still have questions or concerns, make sure that you call and make an appointment to meet with his/her teacher. Do know that as a parent you have access to Parent Portal, which allows you to know how your child is doing daily in all his/her classes.  If you are interested in setting this up, Mrs. Romero will be having Parent Portal classes on Monday’s throughout the month of February. Please look at our calendar for these dates. The second conversation I’m asking you to have is around NWEA scores.  I want you to ask your child the following questions: Did he/she meet their MOY goal?  If not, why? Did he/she have a positive or negative growth? If negative, why? What is their attainment percentile? The goal here is to have our students close to or above the 50th percentile.  Lastly, what will they do differently as they take this test again at the end of the school year? These questions and conversations are critical to the academic growth of your child.  If you would like more information as to what NWEA tests for, or what the information it provides means, feel free to stop by the office and I can sit down with you to further explain NWEA scores and its implications.

Lastly, this is an LSC election year.  If you are interested in running for the LSC as a parent representative stop by the office to pick-up an application.

As always if you have any questions please feel free to contact the office at 773-535-9270.

Dear Parents and Students,
Happy New Year!! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break filled with special moments with family and friends.  I am excited for what's ahead in 2020!

As we continue with NWEA testing, please make sure your child is well rested and in school on time everyday to ensure they are successful.

January is a great time to review the first part of the year and make plans for the next. Looking at your child's school attendance should be part of this important process.

Did your child attend every day unless your child was sick or there was a family emergency? If so, congratulations! Let your child know you are proud of their strong attendance.  Help them keep up the good work for the rest of the year and beyond.  Strong attendance is one predictor of success in school.

If not:
*Remind your child that regular attendance is a priority.
*Emphasize the need for rest, nutrition and exercise to stay healthy and stay in school.
*Consider the reasons you take your child out of school.  Can you make some appointments outside of school hours?

Thank you for your continued support at home! Here's to a successful new Year!

Ms. Burt

A Message From Ms. Soto

Dear Parents and Students,
The holiday season is upon us once again, and this means many activities will be happening here
at Nightingale. Please make sure that you pay close attention to our calendar and newsletter. At Nightingale, one of the many goals that were set last year was to achieve 96% student attendance. In the State of the School meeting that occurred this past Friday, Principal Arias shared our SQRP report and informed all parent attendees and interested stakeholders that Nightingale did meet our 96% student attendance goal for the 2018-2019 school year!!Administration would like to take the time to thank all the parents, students and staff that helped make this goal a reality. Thank you!! We are now faced with the challenge of maintaining our 96% attendance for this 2019-2020 school year. It is important for all to understand that students need to come to school on time every day, however, it is also important to keep in mind that they must remain in school for the full day. Early dismissals do negatively impact your child’s attendance. We need to ensure that our children are in school all day every day. In an effort to maintain our attendance and keep us on the right track of maintaining our 96%attendance goal, for the month of December all students who are in school every day for a ful lday (no early dismissals), Monday through Thursday will be allowed to have an Out of Uniform Day each Friday. Here are the themes for each of the Fridays.Friday December 6th - Pajama Day Friday December 13th - Sports Day Friday December 20th - Holiday Spirit Wear/Christmas Sweater Students who are eligible may follow the theme or just be out of uniform for the day. This is a reminder to all parents/guardians of 8th grade students. The high school application deadline is December 13, 2019. If you need any assistance please stop by and see Mrs. Rohan.
On behalf of everyone here at Nightingale we want to wish you and your family peace and joy this holiday season!

  • An increase in college acceptance and completion
Check out our Monthly Attendance by Grade Section to see student attendance rates.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS:
The YMCA After School Program is in full effect. Nightingale will be adding after- school programs
starting this month. Please be on the look-out for any after-school flyers and permission slips coming
